Sports News: Rory McIlroy, Wimbledon, Nick D’Arcy

At age 22, Rory McIlroy managed to acquire his first US Open title with an 8-shot victory at Congressional Country Club located in Bethesda, Maryland, and with the win, he becomes the youngest golfer to win a major tournament since 1923. The young Irishman also setup a new aggregate score of 268, beating the one imposed by Tiger Woods (out of the competition this year due to injuries) of 272 at Pebble Beach 12 years ago.

Wimbledon: Zvonareva beats Riske in 3 sets

Wimbledon is on, and we are eager to see if the stars are going to win it all or if there will be a few major upsets at the 125th edition of the competition. One of such upsets almost took place yesterday when Alison Riske from the United States took her match against the 2nd seeded Vera Zvonareva to 3 sets, but the Russian, who was a finalist here back in 2010, managed to come up with the victory after the American fell prey of some crucial mistakes. Despise of losing, this just proves that Riske is ready to compete against the best with real chances of winning.

D’Arcy defeats Phelps, waits for long-time rivalry

Nick D’Arcy feels more confident than ever after beating Michael Phelps at the Santa Clara International in the 200 meters butterfly final which took place on Sunday. D’Arcy,who was convicted to a 14-month suspended jail sentence back in 2009 and who was removed from the Australian team that competed at the 2008 Olympics, said that he hopes that his victory was just the start of an ongoing rivalry with Phelps, who he considers as one of the best athletes that ever lived.

Now she will have to meet Kimiko Date-Krumm (who passed after taking down Katie O’Brien from Britain) at the 2nd round.
