Warriors’ new owners are hoping Jerry West jumps in as GM

New owners of the Warriors Peter Guber and Joe Lacob have a main mission in their first days as the main men in Oakland: to clean up the front office and bring in people that can actually do their job the right way since they have been dealing with a lot of dysfunctional matters that has not allowed the franchise to grow, falling victim of stagnation.

Good thing for Golden State is that there are a lot of talented individuals out there who can take on the general manager and coaching jobs. Keith Smart is their obvious choice to replace Don Nelson as coach, and when it comes to GM’s, there is a good list of possible replacements for Larry Riley, all of whom are currently free agents such as Rod Thorn, Kevin Pritchard, Jeff Bower, Danny Ferry and David Griffin, but if they are able to lock up Jerry West, then he will be the best one amongst the aforementioned ones.

West truly knows all the tricks attached to managing a team the proper way, and if he makes a comeback, he will bring his vision to the team and will refocus the franchise’s needs. He has an outstanding understanding of how to handle CBA and salary cap and he also possess an excellent eye for recruiting talent, which will make him the perfect fit for a team that is in need of a full overhaul.

It is still not clear if West will be commanding the Warriors, but rumors of his return to the GM chair are strong after he apparently had decided to call it quits for definitive retirement.

The most likely purchaser for Golden State’s pro basketball team was Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, who had spoken to West about granting him the GM job in case he became the owner of the team, which is why there are also some rumors that West would not be that interested in becoming the general manager for the Warriors.

Of course these are all rumors, as there is nothing concrete on the subject just yet, but if it actually happens, it is certain that West, who is 72 years old won’t want to take care of all of the consuming day-to-day tasks concerning the proper handling of the team’s operations, which is why the name of David Griffin has showed up, as he will be the perfect right hand West will need.
