Spain is the new world cup champions thanks to a late 1-0 victory over the Netherlands on Sunday at Soccer City Stadium, and today the team arrived at Madrid’s Barajas airport in an airplane from national airlines Iberia which had the “proud of our team, champions” slogan printed on the fuselage.
The winners of the 2010 FIFA World Cup walked from the airplane to an open air bus, and on their way, hundreds of Spaniards gathered together in a single voice that screamed “campeones, campeones” (champions). The first to go down from the plane was captain Iker Casillas, who was raising the world cup in his hands.
The players had some rest to then visit the Royal Palace, where they were received by King Juan Carlos, and then they were on their way to meet Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, Spain’s Prime Minister.
What followed for the current champs was a bus ride of 3 miles through Madrid, where hundreds of Spaniards gathered together to congratulate them for their outstanding achievement, as this is the first time Spain get a ticket to the final, to then win it.
