For a few years Roger Federer was number one Rafael Nadal was second, nobody else was even near them, winning a combined 17 out of 18 straight Grand Slams, though things seemed to have changed in recent times, as they haven’t met at a major tournament in the past one and a half years, with Nadal standing at the top since then.
Federer currently holds a record of 16 majors wins, while Nadal is quickly getting there, with 10 majors under his belt, and he has done all of it at the young age of 24.
Rafael Nadal just came up with his latest Grand Slam win on Sunday when he obtained his second Wimbledon Championships title after defeating Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, and he has achieved this after winning his fifth French Open trophy a couple of weeks earlier.
This is certainly an impressive achievement, as nobody had won both the Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season in 27 years since Bjorn Borg did it in 3 straight years (78, 79, and 80).

Nadal’s accomplishments are so good, that he also came up with the same number of Grand Slam wins Andre Agassi, Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors had when they decided to call it quits.
And, on females’ tennis, Serena Williams have proven to be just as impressive, as she is the latest winner of Wimbledon thanks to a victory over Vera Zvonarena who fell to the youngest of the Williams sisters in two sets y 6-3 and 6-2.
This meant the the 13th majors win for Serena, who is distancing from her sister Venus, who currently has 9 majors wins, and who has not won anything for the past two years.
Martina Navratilova, the winner of 18 majors spoke about how impressed she was with the accomplishments of Serena, and also mentioned that she wouldn’t have wanted to meet her at the tennis court.
Rafael Nadal is now looking forward to the US Open, as this is the only Grand Slam tournament which he haven’t managed to win yet, only reaching to the semifinals in 2008 and 2009, and if he is actually able to win it, this can probably be the best year of his career so far.
It seems like on both male and female tennis, the youngest pupils have surpassed their elders, and they are certainly heading in the right direction concerning their careers.
