Yao Ming might retire soon due to persistent injury

Yao Ming, the powerful 29 year old center from the Rockets is thinking about quitting professional basketball for good if he is not able to recover from a persistent foot injury. He missed the whole past season as he was recovering from a delicate surgery, but if he actually calls it quits, Houston at least has seven-foot Brad Miller in their roster now.

Ming feels that his days as a professional basketball player are counted, and in a recent interview by the Chinese press, the experienced veteran said that he is not even thinking about playing at the 2012 London Olympics, as he stated that the injury will not allow him to participate in many matches anymore.

The Chinese National basketball team knows that they are an underdog without Yao in their roster, and a clear proof of that was a home game against Iran for the Asian Championship which was held last year and where they lost in an embarrassing way. Yao has stated that he believes such a lack of good results without him on the court is the outcome of poor development in China’s professional league.

Concerning the Rockets, Ming certainly loves them, and he is confident about the team been able to come up with a good record at the upcoming NBA season. He mentioned that last year some critics were saying that it was impossible for Houston to win more than 30 matches, but they surpassed that number, and that is why the center from China is expecting a good result for Houston.

Yao Ming thought that the 30 year old milestone won’t mean too much for him, as he believed that he was going to be able to perform at a higher level after such age, but after the injury, that changed, and now he is aware of the fact that he will never play again at his peak level and will have to conform to perform as an average player.

Ming has overcome serious injuries in the past and has made it back to play as the backbone of the Rockets, but that truly seems like an impossible for him now, and retirement seems likely after the upcoming season.

What is left for Yao Ming? Well he is very interested in helping developing professional basketball in China, which means that he might be returning to his native country in order to bring his experience and teach the fundamentals of the NBA to young players whom might count with the talent but are in need of the guidance to make it to the professional American league.
