Venus Williams out of Wimbledon, Serena in semifinals

Big disappointments continue to take place at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, as first Grand Slam winner Andy Roddick fell to low ranked Yen-Hsun Lu and now Venus Williams just got eliminated by another low ranked player in Tsevetana Pironkova from Bulgaria.

Williams fell to Pironkova in two sets by 6-2 and 6-3 respectively, and now she has the chance of playing the semifinals of the tournament against Russian Vera Zvonareva, preventing an anticipated match between eight-seeded player Belgian Kim Clijsters and Venus.

This also put an end to a possible re-match between the Williams sisters, whom have met at the finals in four occasions over the past decade.

This is not the first time that Venus is defeated by the Bulgarian, as Pironkova came up with a valuable victory over the American at the past Australian Open, and even though she has never won a tourney in the WTa Tour, two wins over the former world number one is certainly a great addition to her sporting resume.

On the other hand, sister Serena Williams did managed to make it to the semis after defeating Chinese Li Na in straight sets, now the current Wimbledon champion is headed to a match against Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic, and if she is able to make it to the finals and win, she will come up with her thirteenth Grand Slam title, something that is nothing short of impressive.

The sisters are just 2 years apart from each other, but it is certain that Venus’s talent is going down the hill, while Serena’s continue to evolve. The younger Williams defeated the older at last year’s Wimbledon Finals, and everybody was expecting to see them playing against each other one more time, but now only one of them will have the chance to fight for the Grand Slam title.

This is a big crash for Venus, who has reached the Wimbledon finals in 8 of the past ten years, and her lost was mainly the product of double faults and unforced errors. This is considered one of the biggest upsets in the history of the tourney.

Unbelievable but true, Venus Williams is out, and now all she can do is to re-think what she did wrong in order to avoid the same mistakes in the future, and of course, support her sister.
