The candidates to host the World cup in 2018 or 2022 brought some famous faces such as billionaires and football stars like David Beckham to present their bids to host to FIFA. Sepp Blatter, the president of the football organization received the different delegations, including 4 European bidders, 4 more from Asia, and the United States.

This is the final campaigning phase for the bidders, and then the executive committee for the FIFA is going to analyze in a detailed way the final candidates in order to come up with the names of the two hosts in December.

The United States and England both say to have enough venues to host a huge event such as the World Cup, but countries like Qatar are planning to come up with huge investments destined to build stadiums and get all what is necessary to be ready to be considered along with the big names.

Important people like Sheik Tamin (Qatar) and Frank Lowy (president of the Australian football federation) both recognized that it is a very tough competition, but also pointed out that the bid has not been decided yet, therefore, they still are amongst the ones that have a chance.

Blatter revealed a few clues about what is FIFA’s preferred choice for 2018, England, as he called the European country “the motherland of football” and already had engaged in conversations with David Cameron, the British Prime Minister, who told him that the government would be firmly supporting the bid. He even teased bidding leaders about including their bid for 2022 in their books, alluding to the choosing of England for the previous cup. The British are competiting against other European nations such as Russia, and joint bidders such as Belgium-Netherlands and Portugal-Spain.

Russia is an unofficial favorite, as the delegation from that country delivered a letter to Blatter, which was written by that country’s Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, where he wrote that it is actually a national priority for the country to be able of hosting the World Cup, and the first deputy, Igor Shuvalov, who was part of the delegation, said that they are going to be better prepared than Spain or even England in terms of development when the cup actually takes place.
