“Listen up” is the name of the official soundtrack for the World Cup, and besides the song by Shakira and the critically acclaimed Freshly Ground, it will also contain similar collaborations between recognized international artists and African artists. The album will also contain the song for the official mascot of the event named Zakumi.

The profits made from the selling of the record will go directly to African charities, and the cash corresponding to FIFA will also go to a campaign destined to help (in this case, it will be donated to contribute to the construction of 20 “Football for hope” centers) communities which are considered to be in disadvantage all across the African continent.

During her career, Shakira (who is a Grammy winner), has sold approximately 50 million albums, and her collaborations with famous artist such as Alejandro Sanz and Beyonce, have contributed to keep her fans in a continuous expansion. She is basically the only performer from the South American continent to have a number 1 song in the United States, and her appearance during the celebration of the presidential inauguration for Barack Obama has been qualified as quite successful too.

She also counts with 4 of the top 20 best-selling hits of the decade (more than any of the other artists in the list), which includes her song Hips Don’t Lie, which is considered to be the top-selling single of the 21st century, reaching the number one position in fifty five countries.

With such an impressive curriculum under her arm, it is not surprising that she was chosen to co-create such an important song. And when it comes to the “Listen Up” album, it is clear that this is an outstanding production that will certainly acquire the approval of musical critics from all over the globe.
