This is probably one of the best times of the year for basketball fans of Texas, as the Mavericks are facing the Spurs in the NBA playoffs. Dallas is currently leading the series 1-0 thanks to a 100-94 Sunday victory where Dirk Nowitzki show to be unstoppable by San Antonio, who was playing at the American Airlines Center.
The German power forward ended up with 36 points, 32 scored in the first 3 quarters, he then handled the scoring duties to Caron Butler, who finished with 22 points, including a three pointer early in the 4th quarter that allowed Dallas to obtain an outstanding advantage of 81-69.
The second meeting between the two Texan teams will take place on Wednesday, and the Mavericks knows that they cannot allow a defeat at their own backyard, therefore, they need to keep the Spurs’ shooting percentage as low as possible instead of allowing a 50% or more as it happened in game one.
Dallas ended up going thirty four times to the free throw line while the Spurs went only fourteen times, and this was mostly because the Spurs were constantly fouling Erick Dampier in order to prevent him from interacting with Nowitzki.

For the Spurs, Tim Duncan ended up with 27 points, Manu Ginobili with 26 and Jason Kidd with 13, eleven assists and 8 rebounds. Even though he had a great night, Duncan’s points didn’t came easy, as he had to fought against Dampier and Brendan Haywood, whom forced him to 6 turnovers in the game.
When Matt Bonner nailed a 3-pointer with 7:16 left, the Spurs were within 85-80. After trading a couple baskets, the Mavs got four quick points from Nowitzki. Moments later, Jason Terry ended a tough shooting night with a 3-point swish from the corner to put the Mavericks up, 100-88.
When it was over, the Spurs not only had begun to rethink the strategy of playing Nowitzki with one person – especially if that person is Matt Bonner – but the Mavericks were realizing that playoff-level Nowitzki was in the house.
The Mavericks are certainly amongst the top teams in the NBA, and the Spurs are right there head to head with them, therefore, whatever it happens in the following games concerning this series, it is for sure that it will be interesting. But if I have to give my opinion on what my favorite team is, I will have to say that I will bet the Dallas for the winner.
