Jazz tied series 1-1 with a 114-111 road victory over Nuggets

The Jazz has just acquired a very valuable 114-111 road victory over the Nuggets, and have tied the series 1-1. Now the action is heading to Salt Lake City, where the home team will try to pursue two more wins in order to increase their chances of making it to the second round of the playoffs.

For the Jazz, Deron Williams ended up with thirty three points and fourteen assists, while teammate Carlos Boozer finished with 20 points and fifteen rebounds.

Kile Korver and Williams each made 2 free throws in the last eleven seconds to stop Denver, who had overcome a fourteen point deficit in the third quarter, to take a lead of 102-98 with only four and a half minutes to play.

Utah was performing without 2 of its most experienced postseason players in Mehmet Okur, who is suffering of an Achilles tendon injury from game 1 and Andrei Kirilenko, who is definitely out of the series due to a calf injury.

Williams pointed out that his team cannot simply give up the series because such two valuable performers are out.

Kyryo Fesenko was also quite valuable, as he played outstandingly against Nene, while Carmelo Anthony was somewhat muddled during the game in despite of scoring thirty two, just 48 hours after he scored his best playoff performance to date in game 1, finishing with 42 points at that time.

Even though he scored fourteen out of fifteen free throws, he was only nine out of twenty five from the field and finished the match with 4 offensive calls on him.

The other 4 starters for the Nuggets also ended up the game with negative numbers concerning fouls, as they had five each for a total of 37 fouls for Denver.

Adrian Dantley, the coach for the Nuggets, said that he did not saw such a high number of referee calls as something unusual since the game was quite moved, and due to the pressure that is felt by players in postseason times.

Before the defeat, Denver had won 5 straight over Utah at the Pepsi Center, but since this is postseason basketball, players are certainly more focused, and in the case of the Jazz, they knew that a key factor to a road victory was to concentrate on Carmelo Anthony and his performance, they certainly applied this strategy on game 2 and will probably do it again in game 3 on Friday.
