Can the Celtics beat the Cavs in the 2nd round?

The Celtics are done with the Heat as they swept them 4-1 in their best-of-seven series, and Cleveland managed to beat the Bulls out of the picture also by four victories to one, now both the Cavs and Boston will meet again in a rematch of what we have the chance to witness at the 08’ Eastern Conference semis, which will begin on Saturday.

Now, if you are wondering if Cleveland is a talented team, the answer is of course yes (they would not be holding the current best winning records in the league if they were not), but the main question here is: can the Celtics actually beat the Cavaliers? And the answer again is yes.

We have gathered some interesting facts for all of the doubters out there, who don’t give Boston any credit as to be able of beating the Cavs during the second round of the playoffs, here they are:

  1. The regular season series between both teams is currently split with two victories for each.
  2. Boston and Cleveland have the same record concerning road wins at 26-15, and, when you consider home victories, well, the Cavaliers were a bit better during the regular season compared to Boston, but the truth is that the Celtics were severely hit by injuries, and now they are back on track in that field, which also level things up against the Cavs.
  3. Concerning veterans, both squads are also matched on this area, as they have a good number of old timers, with Shaw being 38 now, and Antawn Jamison is 33, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Anthony Parker both will be turning 35 in a couple of months.
  4. Now, when it comes to the top player on this series, then Lebron James is the man, but when it comes to team play, can the Cavs functionality be compared to the good chemistry that is applied by Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo? Certainly not, therefore, they count with more group talented and are also more experienced.

For these and some other important reasons is why I truly believe the Celtics are not real underdogs in the series, but if they want to make it to the finals, they will certainly have to give a good fight against Lebron James, a man that is tired of waiting for his first championship ring. I will say Celtics beats the Cavaliers in 7 games.
